Sooke Skatepark Reopens with a Fresh New Design

The wait is over for skaters on Vancouver Island.

Sooke's skate community has a reason to celebrate. The brand-new Sooke Skatepark officially reopened on May 31, 2026, following a complete redevelopment that transformed one of Vancouver Island's oldest skateparks into a modern destination for skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter users. The project was built by NewLine Skateparks and delivered through a partnership between the Sooke and Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC) and the Capital Regional District (CRD).

Located on Throup Road in Sooke, British Columbia, the skatepark has been a cornerstone of the local action sports scene since 1997, when the original facility was built by the Rotary Club of Sooke. After nearly three decades of heavy use, the aging park had reached the end of its lifespan and was replaced with a completely new design shaped by extensive community feedback.

A Modern Park Built for Progression

The new Sooke Skatepark blends street and transition elements into a smooth, flowing layout designed for all skill levels. Beginners will find plenty of space to learn the basics, while experienced skaters can take advantage of the park's technical features and creative lines.

Highlights of the new design include an organic bowl section, surf-inspired transitions, a mini-ramp, rails, ledges, banks, and manual pads. The layout encourages riders to link tricks together and explore different sections of the park rather than sticking to a single feature.

Designed with the Community

One of the most impressive aspects of the project is the amount of community input that helped shape the final design. Local riders, families, and residents were invited to share ideas and feedback throughout the planning process, ensuring the new facility would meet the needs of current and future users.

Beyond the riding surface itself, the park offers a comfortable place to spend the day. Benches, picnic areas, and nearby amenities make it easy for families and spectators to enjoy the space alongside riders. The park's open layout creates a friendly atmosphere where beginners and advanced riders can share the same facility.

A Must-Visit Spot on Vancouver Island

With its fresh concrete, modern design, and mix of street and transition features, the new Sooke Skatepark has quickly become one of the top skate destinations on Vancouver Island. Whether you're a local rider or visiting the area, it's a park worth checking out. From flowing bowl lines to technical street features, Sooke Skatepark offers something for everyone and marks an exciting new chapter for skateboarding in the community.
