The Tenerife Skatepark Where You Can Jump From the Bowl into the Ocean

Skating the Sunset: A Guide to the New Alcalá Skatepark in Tenerife

Skate guide to the new Alcalá Skatepark in Tenerife (Opened late 2025). Designed by Daniel Yábar, this oceanfront park features fresh concrete, sunset views of La Gomera, and natural swimming pools next door.

If you are planning a skate trip to the Canary Islands, you probably have the famous "La Granja" park in Santa Cruz on your list. But if you want the session that will make your friends back home jealous, you need to drive south. Welcome to the new Alcalá Skatepark, a spot where the Pacific Coast Highway vibes meet European plaza culture. Located in the sleepy fishing village of Alcalá (Guía de Isora), this isn't just a place to skate - it is arguably the best place in Tenerife to watch the sun go down.

The "New Spot" Alert: Fresh Concrete

This is the most important detail for your trip: the park is brand new. Officially inaugurated on August 9, 2025, this modern concrete facility replaces the old wooden ramps that used to sit nearby. Because it is less than a year old, the transition is pristine. There are no cracks, the coping grinds perfectly, and - crucially - it hasn’t been blown out by mass tourism yet. If you go now, you will likely be one of the first foreign skaters to post high-quality footage of the spot.

The Setup: Designed for Flow (and Wind)

The park was designed by Daniel Yábar, one of Spain’s most respected skatepark architects. If you’ve skated his other parks, you know to expect organic shapes and flow.

  • The Bowl: It’s a surf-skater’s dream. With depths of 1.2m and 1.6m, it’s not a terrifying vert ramp, but a whippy, fast enclosed bowl that mimics the feeling of surfing a wave.

  • The Street Course: Instead of boring straight curbs, the street section features curved ledges and manual pads that follow the lines of the coast.

  • The "Soco" Secret: Tenerife is windy. Yábar designed the park to be slightly sunken into the promenade (a technique called a "Soco"). This means that while the trade winds might be howling on the beach, the bowl remains protected and skateable.

The "Viral" Feature: The Natural Pools

This is the unique selling point of Alcalá that makes it Instagram gold. Directly adjacent to the coping - literally steps away - are the Piscinas Naturales de Alcalá. These are natural swimming holes formed by volcanic lava, protected from the crashing waves by rock walls.

The Strategy:

  • Skate the bowl from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Golden Hour).

  • Watch the sun set behind the island of La Gomera in the distance.

  • Walk 20 meters and jump into the Atlantic ocean to cool off.

Logistics: How to Get There

  • Location: Paseo Marítimo Gabriel Escarrer, Alcalá, Tenerife. (Look for the "Piscinas Naturales" on the map; the park is right next to them).

  • Getting There: It is about a 25-minute drive from the popular tourist hub of Las Américas.

  • Bus: Lines 473 or 477 from Los Cristianos/Costa Adeje stop nearby.

  • Cost: 100% Free.

  • Vibe: Local and friendly. The park is often shared with surf-skate kids and older locals.

The Verdict

Alcalá isn't the biggest park in Spain, but it is the one with the best lifestyle. It captures exactly why we travel to skate: perfect new concrete, warm weather, and ocean views. After your session, walk into the town square of Alcalá for tapas. It is much more authentic and cheaper than the tourist traps in the south.
