Save Kennington Park’s Legendary Skatebowl – “Kenny”

Kennington Park’s legendary 1970s skatebowl – known to generations of skaters as “Kenny” – is under serious threat. After years of planning and community effort, Lambeth Council is now considering pulling the funding that was allocated to restore it.

This isn’t just about a piece of concrete. Kenny is skateboarding history. Built in the 70s, it’s one of the UK’s earliest bowls and helped shape the future of skateboarding in London and beyond. Thousands of skaters cut their teeth here, from locals to international pros, and it remains one of the last living monuments to Britain’s first skatepark era.

The restoration plan isn’t just for skaters. It would:

  • Preserve a historic landmark that holds cultural and sporting significance.
  • Bring a much-loved community space back to life with safe spectator areas and ramped access.
  • Reopen the bowl to the park by clearing the overgrown surroundings and making it welcoming again.

Friends of Kennington Park (FoKP) even reallocated funds from other projects to make sure this restoration could happen. Everything was ready to go.

If the Council withdraws support now:

  • The opportunity will likely be lost forever.
  • Public money already invested will have been wasted.
  • The bowl will be left to rot as a dangerous eyesore – or worse, removed completely, leaving only a barren patch of concrete where a unique piece of skate history once stood.

Kenny deserves better. This is about protecting skateboarding heritage, investing in youth and community, and honouring a space that inspired generations.
