Hidden beneath a highway bridge in Arcozelo, Ponte de Lima, Outside DIY is one of Portugal's most distinctive grassroots skateparks. Built directly into the sheltered space beneath the motorway, the concrete DIY combines flowing transition with unconventional lines and obstacles, creating a raw and unique environment that feels completely different from a conventional municipal skatepark.
The project was built in 2017 by the local DIY community together with Wasteland Skateparks, with the local parish supporting the project by providing cement and other essential materials. The Wasteland team played an important role in developing the concrete terrain, with the spot becoming closely associated with the company's DIY roots and local builder João Marcos.
The location beneath the bridge provides natural shelter from rain and creates a distinctive atmosphere, while the surrounding river and countryside make Outside DIY an unusual destination for visiting skaters. The project is a strong example of how a neglected space can be transformed by a local skate community into a legal, creative and highly individual skate spot.
