Couto Skatepark is a small concrete park in the rural surroundings of Barcelos, developed through local community initiative and participatory budgeting. Rather than being a conventional municipal project imposed from above, the park was conceived by local skaters and the Couto Park – Clube de Skate de Barcelos, with support from the municipality, IPDJ and the Geração Z programme.
The park was built by Wasteland Skateparks in 2022, with the concept and design developed by Marcelo Lambiasi and Wasteland. Its compact layout combines an open bowl with a small street section featuring a quarter, banks, manual pad, ledge and rails.
Despite its small size, Couto has developed a strong community around it. The park became popular enough to attract skaters from across Portugal and even international visitors, with the local association continuing to organise activities and improve the surrounding space.
The rural setting is part of what makes Couto special. There are fields, trees, a small village and a skatepark — not exactly the setting you'd expect to find a modern concrete bowl. The result is a welcoming local spot with a strong community feel rather than a polished urban skate plaza.
In 2023, the project received another boost when Couto Skate Association won Barcelos' participatory budget, securing funding to expand the facility with Couto Skatepark 2.0, including additional skatepark development, a playground and WC facilities.

Uno de los mejores skateparks que he estado en mi vida! Está en medio de la naturaleza, solo hay campo y casas alrededor con personas muy agradables y un bar. Hay una fuente con agua potable que baja directamente del río. El skatepark presenta una zona de street con un par de rampas (una con coping las otras dos sin) y una zona de bowl o pool compuesta por diferentes alturas de pared, un suelo sin demasiada adherencia y una entrada que posibilita empezar la línea sin necesidad de drop in. Mi modalidad es el surfskate y siempre he podido compartir el espacio con skaters sin problema. 🔥🛹😊
