Located on Rua dos Bombeiros Voluntários in the Cividade district of Braga, Parque Radical da Cividade is one of the older purpose-built skateparks in Portugal. The facility was constructed in 1998, creating a dedicated space for skateboarding, BMX and rollerblading at a time when purpose-built action-sports facilities were still relatively uncommon in Portugal.
The park sits in an unusual historic setting, directly beside the D. Diogo de Sousa Archaeology Museum and within the archaeological reserve of Bracara Augusta, meaning ancient Roman remains lie beneath and around the modern skatepark. During its construction, archaeological discoveries were reportedly made at the site before the remains were covered again.
Over more than two decades the Parque Radical has become an established part of Braga's skateboarding and BMX scene. It has hosted skate competitions and community events, including municipal programming in the 2010s.
The park is now showing its age, but its importance goes beyond its current condition: this is a surviving piece of Portugal's late-1990s skatepark history, built during the country's early wave of dedicated facilities for skateboarding and other urban action sports.

The old park in Braga is still worth a visit and is a great spot to meet some local skaters.
