Built by A|Park (the former Academia dos Patins) in 2017, Torres Novas Skatepark was created through the municipality's 2016/17 Youth Participatory Budget, after local skater Frederico Catarino and his friends campaigned for a dedicated facility. The park was officially inaugurated on 18 November 2017, with an investment of €10,000.
The compact modular park is constructed from wood with phenolic-board surfaces and features two large ramps alongside a selection of street obstacles. The layout includes a miniramp, quarterpipe, bank, ledge and other basic features arranged in a straightforward back-and-forth configuration.
One of the interesting aspects of the project was its modular and movable construction. The original proposal deliberately chose a system that could be expanded, maintained and even relocated if the municipality needed to change the site. The €10,000 budget allowed for a surprisingly varied setup capable of supporting local sessions and small competitions.
The park was installed on the upper level of Almonda Parque, although the municipality later faced problems with cars using the area as parking, temporarily obstructing access to the skatepark.
