ABOUT SKATEPARK

Convento das Dominicas DIY skatepark

Hidden inside the historic Convento das Dominicas in central Guimarães, this unusual DIY skatepark occupies part of the grounds of the former Convento de Santa Rosa de Lima. The convent itself dates back to the 18th century, with the present complex constructed between 1727 and 1737, creating a striking setting for a modern skate spot.

The DIY park is built directly into the existing space, with concrete transitions, a quarter pipe, kicker, speed bump and ledges creating a compact and unconventional layout. Rather than following the polished design of a commercial skatepark, the spot has the rough, improvised character associated with grassroots DIY construction.

The skatepark is part of a wider creative history at the Dominicas, a former convent that has been used by local cultural and street-art communities for exhibitions, workshops, music and other independent projects. The informal character of the site makes the skatepark particularly distinctive within Guimarães.
