ABOUT SKATEPARK

Municipal Coimbra skatepark

The Municipal Coimbra Skatepark is a large 1,500 m² concrete facility built beneath the Ponte Rainha Santa Isabelon the right bank of the Mondego River. The park was designed for both recreational skating and competition, with four distinct zones covering beginner street and bowl terrain through to an advanced competition-level street section.

The execution project was developed by Conceito Radical – Extreme Sports, commissioned by the Municipality of Coimbra in 2020. The project was specifically designed to accommodate different levels of skateboarding, including national-level street and park competitions.

Construction began in July 2021, with Civibérica – Obras Civis, S.A. winning the public tender and carrying out the main construction contract. The works were completed after some delays caused by previously unidentified underground high-voltage cables, which required modifications to the design.

The skatepark was officially inaugurated on 9 May 2022, following an investment of approximately €452,000.

The park features a substantial street section and bowl, with banks, ledges, manual pads, rails, stairs, gaps, kickers and different levels of transition. The location underneath the bridge gives Coimbra one of Portugal's more distinctive urban skatepark settings.

PARK REVIEWS

This skate park in Coimbra has all the conditions to be an excellent park, the space has a lot of potential. However, the park is terrible, it looks like it was even designed by people who understand absolutely nothing about this sport. That bowl is practically unusable. Not to mention the lack of maintenance, lack of garbage bins and lack of policing. I'm living in Coimbra and I know there's a lot of vandalism in that area and I've never seen the police. Overall, I think the city hall is a disgrace and it's disrespectful to taxpayers.

I give this park only 3 stars, because it's the most expensive park up to date in Portugal and has so many flaws. Project should have been give to builders who understand what they are doing.
