The Memorial Park Skatepark (the new West Kelowna Skatepark), located at 3743 Old Okanagan Highway in West Kelowna, British Columbia, is a 13,000-square-foot facility that replaced the city's previous park to make way for the new City Hall. This project was designed by New Line Skateparks and constructed by Transition Construction, officially opening in September 2021. It serves as a flagship recreation space for the Okanagan, blending high-performance terrain with deep cultural significance.
The design is a highly technical "flow-plaza" that caters to all skill levels through a tiered layout. It features a versatile transition zone, including a large flow bowl with multiple depths and a dedicated "beginner bowl" designed for those just starting to learn transition riding.
As the specialized builder, Transition Construction was responsible for the high-velocity shotcrete and hand-troweled finish that defines the park’s fast and smooth riding surface. A critical element of this project was the integration of Indigenous culture; the facility features significant artwork, language, and design elements created in partnership with Westbank First Nation and the Syilx People. These features are embedded into the park to ensure the traditional territory of the local Indigenous community is celebrated and recognized by all users.
The site is fully integrated into Memorial Park, positioned near the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre and the Annette Beaudreau Memorial Amphitheatre. The facility includes professional-grade perimeter lighting for evening sessions, integrated shade trees, a water bottle filling station, and ample concrete seating for spectators. Today, the West Kelowna Skatepark is recognized as one of the premier facilities in the BC Interior, praised for its technical build quality, its inclusivity, and its role as a vibrant cultural landmark.
