The Trail Skatepark, located at 1188 Columbia Avenue in Trail, British Columbia, is a 12,000-square-foot facility that serves as a modern recreation landmark for the West Kootenay region. This project was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2018, situated along the banks of the Columbia River. The park was the result of a massive community effort and significant fundraising by the Trail Society for Individualized Sports to provide a permanent, high-performance concrete environment for local youth.
The design is a sophisticated "flow-plaza" that utilizes a long, linear footprint to create a sense of speed and continuity. The facility is anchored by a versatile flow bowl with varying depths and integrated extensions, which feeds directly into a modern street section. The plaza is equipped with a dense array of technical obstacles, including granite-capped hubba ledges, a "bump-to-bar" feature, flat rails, and diverse stair sets. A unique highlight is the park's aesthetic integration with Trail’s industrial history, featuring custom metalwork and concrete detailing that pays homage to the local bridge architecture and the nearby smelter.
Constructed with high-strength, smooth-troweled concrete, the facility was engineered to handle the heavy usage and extreme seasonal shifts of the Kootenays. The layout is designed for "infinite flow," where perimeter quarter pipes and banks act as return walls, allowing riders to maintain momentum and navigate the technical center in one continuous line. The park is situated within the Gyro Park complex, benefiting from its proximity to the Columbia River Skywalk and the regional trail system.
The site features professional-grade lighting for evening sessions and integrated concrete seating that offers clear sightlines for spectators and families. Today, the Trail Skatepark is widely considered one of the best facilities in the BC interior, recognized for its exceptional build quality and its role as a vibrant social hub that bridges the gap between the city’s industrial roots and its active, modern future.
