S.O.R Skatepool City Ocean is a distinctive concrete skatepool integrated into the roof plaza of the Cité de l’Océan et du Surf in Biarritz. Rather than being a conventional standalone skatepark, the pool forms part of the building's architectural landscape and was specifically created as a gathering space for surfers and skateboarders.
The skatepool sits on the southwestern corner of the building, beneath the large curved public plaza. Its smooth, bowl-like concrete form contrasts with the surrounding landscaped plaza and reflects the ocean-inspired architecture of the Cité de l’Océan. The unusual integration of a skatepool directly into a major architectural project makes it one of Biarritz's more distinctive skate spots.
The Cité de l’Océan et du Surf was designed by Steven Holl Architects in collaboration with Solange Fabião, with local architects Leibar & Seigneurin, and was completed in 2011. The skatepool was conceived as part of the original architectural project rather than being added later as a separate skate facility.
