Located in the Zona Desportiva de Pombal, this skatepark has a history that goes back much further than its current appearance suggests. The original facility was already being discussed around the turn of the millennium, but after years of deterioration it was eventually replaced by a completely new park.
The current skatepark was built by A|Park (the former Academia dos Patins) in 2020. The construction contract was signed in September 2019, with the new facility replacing the old skatepark, whose wooden ramps had deteriorated badly over the years.
The approximately 1,000 m² modular park combines street and transition elements, including quarters, banks, stairs, ledges, rails, hubbas, a funbox, spine and step-up. It was designed to accommodate skateboarding, BMX and other wheeled sports.
The story of Pombal's skatepark is also one of persistence. During a 2020 municipal meeting, a councillor described the project as something he had been fighting for for around 20 years, highlighting just how long the local community had been waiting for a proper replacement.
Today, the A | Park-built facility represents a new chapter for a skatepark that has served Pombal's riders since the early days of municipal skateboarding in Portugal.
