The Skate Park at Carpenter Park, located at 6701 Coit Road in Plano, Texas, is a 20,000-square-foot facility that stands as one of the most extensive and visually striking skateparks in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This project was designed by New Line Skateparks and built by SPA Skateparks (with Dean Construction) in 2018. A signature "Easter egg" of the park’s architecture is that the entire layout is shaped like the letter "P" when viewed from above, mimicking the official City of Plano logo.
The design is a high-energy "flow-plaza" that provides a massive range of terrain for all skill levels. The centerpiece is one of the largest bowl complexes in the region, featuring three distinct depths ranging from a 5-foot shallow end to a massive 10.5-foot deep end. This deep section includes a 3-foot extension and a vertical "tombstone" for expert transition riders, while utilizing authentic concrete pool coping. The shallower sections utilize smooth steel coping and a "waterfall" transition between depths to help riders maintain speed.
The street plaza section is equally impressive, utilizing the park's length to create long, technical lines. It features diverse obstacles including multi-level granite-capped hubba ledges, a specialized "Maloof" style ledge, and a variety of stair sets, including a "London Gap." Riders can choose between round or square tubing for handrails and take advantage of technical features like bank-to-bank gaps, manual pads, and a "roll-in" that allows for a high-speed entry into the plaza.
Constructed using high-performance, smooth-troweled concrete, the park includes colored concrete detailing that highlights specific features and ledge caps. The facility was developed as part of a larger renovation of Carpenter Park and is equipped with a professional lighting system for evening sessions, a large shade shelter with benches, and nearby restrooms. Due to its popularity and specific design intent, it is a strictly "non-bicycle" park, reserved for skateboards, scooters, and inline skates to ensure the safety of all users and the longevity of the concrete features.
