The Banff Skatepark, located within Sundance Park (formerly the Banff Recreation Grounds) on Sundance Road, is a facility of global significance and a landmark achievement in recreational design. As the first integrated public concrete skatepark ever built within a North American National Park, it serves as a "poster child" for beautiful skatepark locations, framed by the majestic peaks of the Canadian Rockies and the Mount Rundle skyline. This world-class facility was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in a meticulous 12-month collaboration with Parks Canada, the Town of Banff, and local skateboarders to ensure the design met stringent environmental stewardship and architectural control requirements.
The park features approximately 17,000 square feet of modern concrete terrain, masterfully blending transition and street elements to suit every skill level. Riders can explore a flowing snake-run style bowl area with various hips and pockets, a comprehensive street plaza equipped with hubba ledges, handrails, stair sets, and A-frames, and a transition section featuring vertical walls and quarter pipes. The design even incorporates a "mini-pipe" section, honoring the heritage of the site’s previous modular equipment. Beyond the concrete, the park’s layout prioritizes the "Banff experience" with integrated seating and viewing areas that allow visitors to soak in the breathtaking natural surroundings. Located just minutes from downtown Banff and adjacent to a scenic bike pump track and adventure playground, the Banff Skatepark is an essential destination that harmonizes high-performance action sports with the tranquility of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
