Urban Sports Park Roosendaal

Unveiled in the summer of 2021, the Urban Sports and Playground for Stadsoevers stands as one of the largest and most ambitious urban sports installations in the Benelux. Spanning a massive two hectares (10,000 m²), this sprawling hotspot features a premium 1,200 m² custom concrete skatepark, a dedicated parkour/freerunning course, 3x3 basketball courts, and an outdoor street dance floor. Commissioned by the Municipality of Roosendaal, the project was part of a forward-thinking master plan that prioritized active public space to breathe immediate life into a newly developed residential district near the central station.

Nine Yards orchestrated the overall spatial integration of the sports park, looking far beyond the boundaries of the skateable concrete to design a cohesive public landscape. The park’s layout addresses wider community infrastructure, including hospitality areas, football facilities, and smart pedestrian flow. To honor the industrial heritage of the station zone, the design embraces "urban mining" by repurposing raw materials found on-site. An old railway track was seamlessly integrated into the landscape, and a former watchtower was preserved to serve as the park's central visual anchor.

This deep commitment to architectural sustainability is matched by rigorous public safety compliance. Nine Yards managed the comprehensive, turnkey NEN certification and safety testing for the entire two-hectare sports park. The result is a vibrant, future-proof cultural stage where sport, local history, and inclusive community health seamlessly intersect.
