ABOUT SKATEPARK

Statesville DIY skatepark

The Statesville DIY Skatepark, affectionately known as "Skatesville," is a community-driven skatepark located at 110 West Allison Street in Statesville, North Carolina. This initiative emerged from a collaboration between local skateboarders and the Statesville Housing Authority (SHA) to provide a dedicated space for skaters.

For over 15 years, skateboarding was prohibited in Statesville, leading to challenges for the local skateboarding community. Tragically, during this period, two skateboard-related fatalities occurred, both involving vehicular accidents. In response, the non-profit organization "Live To Skate" (LTS) partnered with the SHA to establish a safe and legal environment for skateboarders.

The skatepark is part of the David J. Meachem Cultural, Arts, Sports & Technology Campus. Over approximately four months, local skaters volunteered their time and skills to construct various features, including ramps, rails, ledges, and halfpipes. The park also boasts a sound system to enhance the skating experience.
