The Sparwood Skatepark, located at 367 Pine Avenue in Sparwood, British Columbia, is aproximately 10,000-square-foot facility that serves as a modern recreation anchor for the Elk Valley. This project was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2016, following years of community fundraising. It was developed to provide a high-performance concrete alternative to the town’s original modular setup, capable of withstanding the intense alpine climate.
The design is a technical "flow-plaza" that emphasizes long-distance speed and architectural variety. It features a versatile flow bowl with varying depths and rhythmic hips, which feeds directly into a street section inspired by urban geometry. The plaza is equipped with granite-capped hubba ledges, flat rails, a central "A-frame" pyramid, and a signature stair set. The layout is engineered for "infinite flow," utilizing perimeter quarter pipes and banks as return walls to keep riders in motion across the park's rectangular footprint.
Constructed with high-strength, smooth-troweled concrete, the facility was built by New Line’s specialized crews to handle the heavy snowfall and extreme freeze-thaw cycles of the Kootenays. The park is integrated into the Sparwood Leisure Centre grounds, offering clear sightlines for spectators and proximity to the town’s iconic "World's Largest Truck" landmark. Today, the Sparwood Skatepark is celebrated as a premier regional destination, recognized for its fast riding surface and its role as a vibrant social hub for local youth.
