The Shoreham-by-Sea Skatepark, located within Buckingham Park in West Sussex, UK, is an 8,000-square-foot concrete facility that represents a major upgrade for the local Adur District riding community. This park was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2016, following an extensive public consultation process to ensure the terrain met the specific needs of local skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter users. The project replaced a dilapidated metal-on-tarmac park with a seamless, high-performance landscape designed for longevity and flow.
The design is a contemporary "flow-plaza," characterized by its open layout and rhythmic transitions. A key feature is the "mini-ramp" style transition section that connects effortlessly to the street obstacles, allowing riders to maintain speed through the entire park. The plaza area includes a variety of technical features such as hubba ledges, flat rails, a "bump-to-bar," and several manual pads. The layout is engineered to facilitate "circular flow," meaning multiple riders can navigate different lines simultaneously without the risk of high-speed collisions, a common issue in smaller footprint parks.
Constructed with smooth-troweled concrete, the park is designed to be whisper-quiet, which was a critical requirement for its location within a popular residential park. The design-build team also integrated several sustainable drainage features to manage the coastal region's rainfall effectively. By combining technical street obstacles with accessible transition elements, the Shoreham-by-Sea Skatepark has become a flagship facility for the South Coast, praised for its build quality and its inclusive environment that welcomes everyone from beginners to seasoned professionals.
