ABOUT SKATEPARK

Second Heaven skatepark

Welcome to a landmark destination that represents the beating heart of extreme sports in Canada’s North. Situated in the capital city of Whitehorse, Second Heaven Skatepark—historically referred to by locals as "Second Haven"—holds an important legacy as the primary action sports hub for the entire Yukon Territory. The original park was built back in 1995, the exact same year as the very first X-Games, and served as a beloved, graffiti-laden youth refuge for over two decades. However, its original asphalt surface and weathering wood ramps grew increasingly rough under the brutal sub-arctic winter freeze-thaw cycles. Recognizing the park's massive cultural importance, a collaborative funding push by the federal and territorial governments launched a complete, state-of-the-art rebuild to give northern riders the world-class facility they deserved.

The spectacular 3.5-million-dollar modern evolution of the park was a massive engineering feat designed to withstand the harsh northern climate. The multi-use facility was designed in 2020 by the global design and engineering firm Stantec, whose specialized action sports division collaborated with local rider advocacy groups like the Skate for Life Alliance to ensure the layout checked every box for the community. The heavy-duty, specialized concrete construction was executed by Radius skateparks Together, the design-build team completely demolished the obsolete asphalt setup and replaced it with an inclusive, incredibly smooth, poured-in-place concrete playground designed to thrive in freezing northern conditions.

Second Heaven Skatepark is a completely free, outdoor public concrete facility. Thanks to its smart layout, the park offers an effortless progression curve, featuring low-impact banks and open flatground lines for beginners alongside deep, technical bowls and large stair sets for advanced riders. The park operates as a daytime facility without dedicated evening sports lighting and is situated in a beautifully scenic location at 19 Hospital Road in the Riverdale neighborhood of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.

TrucksandFins Tip: Because it sits right along the banks of the historic Yukon River, just steps from the S.S. Klondike National Historic Site and the Millennium Trail, this is easily one of the most visually stunning skateparks in Canada. If you are road-tripping through the North, this park serves as the ultimate Yukon basecamp, with public washrooms, parking, and major downtown Whitehorse amenities located just across the river bridge.
