ABOUT SKATEPARK

Mehen Memorial skatepark

The Mehen Memorial Skatepark is a community-driven project located in New Meadows, Idaho. It was built as a tribute to Rory and Sara Mehen, a local couple and owners of the Heartland Inn who were tragically killed in October 2022. The park is a significant symbol of resilience for the town, as the idea for a skatepark was originally a dream of the Mehens. Following their passing, the community rallied to raise over $500,000 to bring the vision to life. A custom feature is embedded with a red heart at the southern boundary to honor the Mehens. Rory Mehen had founded the "New Meadows Skate Park" nonprofit in 2021. After the tragedy, organizations like the J.A. & Kathryn Albertson Foundation provided major grants to bridge the funding gap. Today, the park serves as a safe, approachable space for both beginners and competitive skaters, and it has been credited with helping the small community heal through a shared positive project. The skatepark is approximately 7,000 square feet and officially opened on September 27, 2025.
