The Toryglen pump track at Malls Mire Park sits close to the Cathkin Braes track — designed and built by VelosolutionsUK for the Glasgow 2018 European Games. Where Cathkin Braes is a larger, more progressive circuit, Toryglen was conceived as its natural counterpart: an entry-level facility for beginners and improvers, welcoming to bikes, scooters, and balance bikes alike.
The 110m track offers a safe and exciting introduction to pump track riding, with rest areas woven into the layout where riders can gather, watch, and learn from one another.
Subcontracted by iDverde, VelosolutionsUK collaborated with landscape architects to integrate the track into a wider green infrastructure scheme. Embankments were shaped to optimal 1:3 gradients using site-won topsoil, and seeding was used in place of turf for landscaping — allowing for natural germination while delivering cost savings that could be reinvested into the track itself. As with every VelosolutionsUK project, construction began from a level base, ensuring correct track functionality and giving riders the momentum they need to develop their pumping technique.
The riding surface was laid using a custom mix asphalt, chosen for its smooth yet grippy performance in wet conditions. Careful shaping of the asphalt ensures stability at steep angles and a consistent, confidence-inspiring ride throughout.
