Officially opened in late 2024, the Maasmechelen Urban Sports Park completely transformed the Wipstraat site into a modern, 1,600 m² flagship recreation hub. Developed with financial support from the Flemish Government and realized in close partnership with the Jan Vertonghen Foundation, this state-of-the-art facility was designed as an inclusive, highly active gathering space for local youth and action sports enthusiasts. The project replaced old modular equipment with a permanent setup, built using direct input from local skaters and riders to ensure a layout that challenges all skill levels.
The park seamlessly integrates three distinct recreational zones into a single cohesive landscape. Action sports enthusiasts can drop into a custom-poured concrete skatepark packed with modern street elements, which flows directly into a dynamic asphalt pump track sculpted with rolling hills and tight berms for practicing rhythm and speed. Adding a unique, gamified dimension to the space, the park also features a Yalp Sona interactive outdoor gaming arch.
