The Kristopher Campbell Memorial Skatepark, located within Riverside Park in Pembroke, Ontario, is a 10,000-square-foot facility that serves as a moving tribute and a high-performance recreational hub for the Ottawa Valley. This project was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2017, following a dedicated community fundraising campaign led by the Campbell family in memory of their son, Kristopher. The park replaced an aging modular facility with a world-class concrete landscape designed for long-term durability and inclusive use.
The design of the park is defined by its "linear-flow" architecture, which allows riders to move seamlessly between technical street features and transition elements. It features a versatile flow bowl with varied depths and extensions, integrated with a modern street plaza that includes granite-capped hubba ledges, flat rails, and a central "A-frame" feature. The layout is engineered to be "omni-directional," utilizing quarter pipes at the perimeters as return walls so that skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter users can maintain momentum throughout their entire session.
Constructed with high-strength, smooth-troweled concrete, the facility was built to withstand the extreme seasonal temperature shifts of Eastern Ontario. The design also prioritizes place-making, featuring integrated concrete seating, commemorative signage, and clear sightlines that make it a comfortable environment for families and spectators. Situated along the shores of the Ottawa River, the Kristopher Campbell Memorial Skatepark is recognized as one of the premier action sports destinations in the region, celebrated for its high-quality finish and its role in fostering a positive, active community for local youth.
