The Kinsmen Skate Plaza (often referred to as the Kin Coulee Skatepark), located within Kin Coulee Park in Medicine Hat, Alberta, is a landmark facility that represents the culmination of over five years of advocacy by the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association. This project was designed and constructed by New Line Skateparks. It was built as a massive, modern expansion to the city’s existing Inland Skatepark, which was constructed a decade earlier.
The design reflects a significant leap forward in skatepark architecture, featuring highly integrated urban plaza terrain alongside a modern, three-pocket bowl unit tailored to the community's desires and the unique natural setting of the Three Person’s Creek site.
What makes this park truly special is its deep architectural connection to local history. The detailing pays homage to Medicine Hat's iconic association with brick-making and natural gas production. This is highlighted by a signature "Gas Lantern" slappy loading dock and red-stamped, integral-colored concrete accents strategically placed throughout the facility. Today, the plaza is a heavily programmed community hub that hosts lessons, regular special events, and "Beat the Heat"—one of the largest and most prestigious amateur skateboarding competitions in Western Canada.
