The Karhumäki Pumptrack, located in Imatra's Ukonniemi area, is a dynamic cycling facility designed to cater to enthusiasts of all skill levels. The track's undulating design allows riders to generate momentum through pumping movements, making it suitable for various wheeled sports, including biking, skateboarding, and scootering.
In the autumn of 2017, Jaakko Hasu, chairman of the cycling division of Imatra Athletes, proposed the establishment of a pump track to the city. The city required a deposition site for soil from the Karhumäki field construction, which was then utilized for the pump track's foundation. The cycling division, known as Imatra MTB, spearheaded the track's construction, procuring materials and dedicating volunteer hours to shape the track. Mitra, a local company, contributed by moving earth and shaping the track according to the cycling team's specifications, dedicating approximately 100 excavator hours to the project. In November 2018, the city allocated €20,000 for asphalting the track, enhancing its durability and usability.
The Karhumäki Pumptrack stands as a testament to community collaboration, offering a premier recreational space that promotes physical activity and skill development among residents and visitors alike.
