ABOUT SKATEPARK

Kamloops Rotary skatepark

The Kamloops Rotary Skatepark, located at McArthur Island Park in Kamloops, British Columbia, is a sprawling 20,000-square-foot facility that stands as one of the most iconic skateparks in the Canadian Interior. Originally opened in the early 2000s, the park underwent a massive $1.2 million expansion and modernization designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2017. This project transformed the "legacy" site into a world-class destination, specifically engineered to handle the high-speed requirements of the local BMX and skateboard communities.

The design is a "mega-hybrid" that seamlessly bridges the gap between massive transition features and technical street architecture. The centerpiece of the 2017 expansion is a "competition-depth" flow bowl, featuring varied elevations, extensions, and a massive "full-pipe" inspired cradle that allows for vertical carving. This transition area feeds into a sprawling street plaza that utilizes the park's natural grade to create tiered levels of obstacles. Riders can navigate a diverse array of features, including long granite hubba ledges, "slappy" curbs, flat rails, and a signature "bump-to-bar" set, all arranged to allow for long, continuous lines across the park's vast footprint.

Constructed to withstand the intense heat of the Thompson Valley summers and the cold winters of the BC Interior, the park utilizes high-durability, smooth-troweled concrete and heavy-duty steel edging. The facility is fully integrated into the McArthur Island Park ecosystem, which serves as the city’s premier sports hub. The site includes professional-grade lighting for night sessions, expansive spectator bleachers, and shaded rest areas. Today, the Kamloops Rotary Skatepark is a regular host for regional and national competitions, celebrated for its massive scale, creative flow, and its role as a cornerstone of the "Tournament Capital of Canada."
