Following a competitive tender, Bristol City Council awarded VelosolutionsUK the design and construction of a new pump track facility in Hartcliffe — an area with significant community need. The site presented immediate challenges: a natural slope required careful design consideration, and proximity to neighbouring houses demanded a sensitive and considered approach throughout.
Engaging meaningfully with the local community was central to the project. Security concerns during construction were a real issue, with equipment damage and theft causing setbacks along the way. Rather than letting this derail progress, the team focused on building genuine relationships with local residents — who in turn became advocates for the site, actively supporting its protection during the build.
The finished pump track has become a well-loved fixture in the community. Beyond the facility itself, the project generated £100,547 in social value through engagement with local community initiatives, the hiring of local staff, and sourcing materials from nearby suppliers — leaving a lasting impact that extends well beyond the track.
