Nestled inside the freshly revitalized Collingwood Park in East Vancouver, the Collingwood Skate Spot is a modern neighborhood wheel facility. The spot was created as a primary feature of the Vancouver Park Board’s massive park renewal project, which broke ground in 2024 to replace aging amenities. Designed to serve as a low-impact, highly accessible neighborhood hangout, the skate spot is seamlessly integrated into a vibrant, multi-sport layout right alongside a new playground, basketball court, and splash pad.
The creation of the skate feature was a direct result of the Vancouver Skateboard Amenity Strategy, a municipal initiative aimed at filling recreational gaps across underserved city neighborhoods. The conceptual planning, community surveys, and site layouts were managed internally by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation's urban planning team. To transform their technical blueprints into a skater-approved reality, the city utilized the expert concrete builders at Transition Construction. Their specialized crew handled the precise formwork and hand-shaping, delivering a buttery-smooth, high-density concrete structure designed to handle heavy daily sessions and coastal rain patterns.
The layout is structurally engineered as a compact, open-concept "Skate Spot" rather than a massive, sprawling regional park. It heavily favors street-plaza skaters, technical flatground progression, and smooth flow. The defining feature of the spot is a beautifully sculpted, open-ended concrete transition wall that feeds directly into a smooth outer flatground run. Designed with progression in mind, the layout contains perfectly scaled street obstacles, including an ultra-crisp perimeter ledger block, manual pads, and low-risk banks that allow local youth, scooter riders, and technical skaters to effortlessly link lines together.
The Collingwood Skate Spot is an outdoor, public concrete facility that is 100% free to ride. Because it was intentionally designed as a neighborhood spot with low-impact obstacles, it is exceptionally beginner-friendly for young children, while the clean finish and manual pads keep local tech skaters fully engaged. The park operates under the standard municipal park hours from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM and is located at Collingwood Park, 5275 McKinnon Street, Vancouver, British Columbia.
TrucksandFins Tip: This is a perfect example of a modern, low-stress neighborhood skate spot. Because it sits within a fully loaded, newly upgraded community park, visiting riders have effortless on-site access to premium amenities, including paved walkways, open green spaces, fresh seating areas, and fully serviced public washrooms.
