The Barrio San Antonio Skatepark, located in the historic center of Mexico City, was inaugurated in June 2017 as part of an initiative to revitalize public spaces and promote skateboarding culture in the heart of the city. This 5,167-square-foot skatepark was designed by SITE Design Group and constructed by California Skateparks, two well-known firms in the skatepark industry. The park was created with the support of Nike SB, the Fideicomiso del Centro Histórico, and the Mexico City government.
The park features modern street elements, including quarter pipes, ledges, stair sets with rails, and a pump bump, making it a versatile space for skaters of all skill levels. It is divided into two main sections: one dedicated to street-style skating and another with bowls for transition skating. The park’s design also includes a mural by Mexican urban artist José Luis Ponce, which incorporates influences from Mexican culture and the surrounding historic architecture.
Funding for the park came through a collaboration between Nike SB and the local government as part of their commitment to enhancing urban recreational spaces. The skatepark is free to the public and offers free skateboard classes on weekends, targeting younger skaters between the ages of 2 and 14. The park has quickly become a central hub for the skateboarding community in Mexico City, attracting between 200 and 300 skaters daily.
