Nelson Park 1147, 1167 E 10th St, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57103, United States of America
The Barb Iverson Skate Plaza at Nelson Park stands as a 20,000-square-foot masterpiece of modern recreation, honoring three decades of mentorship and heart provided by a beloved local educator. This state-of-the-art all-wheel park translates Ms. Iverson’s legacy of advocacy and compassion into a physical space where community building and personal growth take center stage. Ranked among the largest facilities of its kind in the United States, the plaza was intentionally designed to be an inclusive haven for riders of all skill levels and wheel types, ensuring that everyone from first-time learners to seasoned pros feels at home on the concrete.
The layout seamlessly blends diverse environments to challenge and inspire, featuring a dedicated street plaza lane, a flow bowl area for transition enthusiasts, and a striking rock terrace feature that anchors the design. From the precision of the stairs and rails to the expansive flow of the bowls, every inch of the park reflects a commitment to quality and imagination. This landmark project came to life through a dedicated partnership with the local advocacy group Let’s Skate and the design-build expertise of New Line Skateparks, fulfilling a collective vision to provide a safe, vibrant space for physical activity. By fostering a sense of belonging and sparking the same curiosity Ms. Iverson championed in her classroom, the skate plaza remains a vital hub for the next generation of Sioux Falls riders to learn, grow, and connect.
