The Atchison Skatepark, located near North 10th and Riley Streets in Atchison, Kansas, is a testament to community dedication and the realization of a young skateboarder's dream. The park officially opened in October 2021, offering a modern facility for local skateboarders and BMX riders.
The initiative for the skatepark was inspired by the late Joshua Kinsman, a local skateboarder who envisioned such a facility in Atchison. Following his passing in 2018, his parents discovered a letter he had written at 15, expressing his desire for a skatepark in their community. Motivated by his dream, they collaborated with city leaders to bring the project to fruition. The endeavor was funded through $200,000 in community fundraising efforts, supplemented by a $75,000 match from the City of Atchison.
