Unveiled in the autumn of 2023, the Urban Sports and Play Park for Zwijndrecht stands as one of the largest and most dynamic multi-discipline facilities in Belgium. While the municipality originally sought a standalone skate facility, Nine Yards took a proactive, collaborative approach during the early consulting phases. By working transparently with local authorities, the project's scope was successfully expanded to transform a single asset into a sprawling, cohesive one-hectare (10,000 m²) sports ecosystem.
Centered around a premium 750 m² custom concrete skatepark, the park incorporates outdoor basketball courts, football fields, and a dedicated mountain bike trail. Nine Yards orchestrated the overall architectural integration of the site, looking far beyond the edges of the skatepark to unify the diverse athletic zones.
Through strategic spatial design, complementary material selections, and thoughtful color theory, the final layout creates a natural, inviting flow that connects separate disciplines seamlessly. The completed park acts as an inclusive, future-proof landmark that promotes community vitality, healthy movement, and high-performance action sports for the entire region.
