Southwell Skatepark is a modern concrete skatepark on Park Lane in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, located beside Southwell Leisure Centre and The Minster School. The new park opened in 2024, replacing the town's ageing skatepark and providing a permanent facility designed for riders of different ages and abilities. The skatepark was designed and built by Betongpark, following a community-led development process involving Friends of Southwell Parks (FOSP), local skatepark users and Skate Nottingham. Skate Nottingham helped gather feedback from local riders and contributed expert user feedback during the tender process.
The compact concrete layout makes good use of the available space, combining street and transition elements. Features include a small flatbank, ledge, rail, kicker-to-kicker, an open bowl section, a brick-effect bank, hip and tall quarter. The layout provides good flow and multiple lines despite the relatively small footprint. The project grew out of a long-running local campaign to replace the previous skatepark, which had become tired, damaged and increasingly unsuitable for the community. Beginning in 2020, FOSP and Skate Nottingham worked with local users to establish priorities for the new design and secure funding. Funding included a £100,000 FCC Community Action Fund grant, alongside support from Co-op and Newark & Sherwood District Council.
The new park was also designed to be a more accessible community space, with its location next to the leisure centre and school making it easier for local young people to reach without travelling to other facilities. Following completion, Skate Nottingham and FOSP supported a programme of free coaching, creative workshops and Skate Hive sessions for women and girls.
