Opened in 2021, Beastwood Skatepark stands as a premier example of adaptive urban reuse, transforming a former car garage in the heart of historic Bruges into a vibrant indoor sports and cultural landmark. Commissioned by the Youth Service of Bruges, the project required a specialized partner capable of managing the specialized layout design and final construction. Nine Yards Skateparks spearheaded the project, collaborating closely with the local municipality, the park operator, and regional riders to deliver a top-tier action sports destination.
The development followed an intensive participatory process, integrating direct feedback from local skaters to ensure the final layout perfectly aligns with the community's needs. The resulting design masterfully fits a high-flow concrete and timber landscape into the industrial footprint of the old garage, offering an elite mix of transition ramps, bowl sections, and technical street features engineered for all skill levels.
Drawing on extensive experience with multi-functional public spaces, Nine Yards also provided crucial consulting on the park’s broader amenities, including the interior design, commercial catering infrastructure, and social areas. Funded in part by the local government, Beastwood has successfully transcended its athletic function to become a full-scale cultural hub—complete with a bar, terrace, and garden that blends street culture, local art exhibitions, and youth recreation under one historic roof.
