New Brighton skatepark

Situated in the southeast quadrant of Calgary within the massive New Brighton Athletic Park, the New Brighton Skatepark is a premier, modern wheel destination. Opened in 2016 as a major component of the city's $17-million multi-sport park development, this facility was engineered to fill a significant recreational gap in Calgary's fast-growing southeast communities. Integrated seamlessly alongside multi-sport turf fields, baseball diamonds, and modern playgrounds, it functions as a highly active social and athletic hub for local youth.

The park was designed by New Line Skateparks, North America's longest-running specialized action sports architecture firm, in collaboration with van der Zalm + associates. It was commissioned as part of the City of Calgary's ambitious, Council-approved Skateboard Amenities Strategy, which aimed to systematically build custom concrete facilities across the city's quadrants. New Line Skateparks engineered the layout to emphasize structural durability and fluid motion, ensuring the poured-in-place concrete could smoothly survive Calgary's severe winter freeze-thaw cycles while maintaining high-performance traction.

The layout is a highly dynamic hybrid design, notable for offering a deeply satisfying flow that caters equally to transition riders and street skaters. The crown jewel of the facility is its exceptionally well-designed, ultra-smooth concrete flow bowl. Featuring varying depths, beautifully shaped hips, and integrated coping, the bowl complex allows transition riders to maintain effortless carving momentum and practice technical aerial transfers. Surrounding the bowl structure is an extensive street plaza section equipped with a collection of perfectly spaced grind rails, flat banks, stair sets, and ledges. The wide layout ensures that multiple riders can trace out distinct lines simultaneously without crowding the obstacles.

New Brighton Skatepark is an outdoor, public concrete facility that is completely free to access. The park is equipped with integrated sports floodlights that extend session times well into the evening, and it is located within the New Brighton Athletic Park at 5801 130 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta.
