Built by Concreteproof in 2016 for the City of Helsinki, this 370-square-meter expansion delivered a highly anticipated upgrade to Micropolis—the iconic first park designed by world-renowned skatepark architect Janne Saario. To answer the local community's growing need for more rideable terrain, the project seamlessly integrated new concrete features into the grassy central island of the existing park layout.
The expanded zone focuses heavily on street-oriented lines and flow, introducing key obstacles that local riders had been requesting for years, including a sleek granite ledge, an elongated flat rail, and a long slappy curb. By unlocking fresh lines and adding technical street variety, this thoughtful addition significantly enhanced the overall capacity and versatility of one of Helsinki’s most famous skateboarding landmarks.
