ABOUT SKATEPARK

Maldon Promenade skatepark

Located along the scenic banks of the Blackwater Estuary inside the historic, 23-hectare Promenade Park, the Maldon Promenade Skatepark, aka Maldon Prom, has a long history, originally featuring an old-school, outdated layout made of steel obstacles bolted down onto a raw 540-square-metre tarmac pad. Because of heavy coastal salt air coming off the estuary, the old steel structures eventually reached the end of their operational life and rusted out. Maldon District Council secured a massive £911,660 regional investment—boosted by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner's Safer Streets Fund—to completely demolish the old footprint. They replaced it with a sprawling, state-of-the-art concrete complex that more than doubled the original size to a massive 1,230 square metres, officially opening to the public with a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The complete architectural redesign and modern concrete transformation were executed by Bendcrete Skateparks Ltd (operating as Bendcrete Leisure Ltd). Acting as the official agent and landscape developer under planning application 25/00254/FUL, the firm led extensive public surveys and face-to-face user group meetings with Essex riders to tailor the blueprints directly to local styles. Bendcrete's master concrete shapers handled the heavy earthwork, structural drainage strategies, and on-site shotcrete spraying.

The layout is a premium, open-concept hybrid park that expertly blends high-speed transition elements with a highly progressive street plaza. The standout highlight of the design is a deep, ultra-smooth concrete bowl and transition flow zone, complete with heavy pool coping for loud, crunchy grinds and continuous speed carving. Sweeping cleanly off the bowl deck is a highly technical street section. The plaza run is packed with a balanced selection of modern obstacles, including multiple flat banks, integrated quarter pipes, a spine transfer, crisp grind rails, hubba ledges, and steps. Reflecting a modern focus on community safety, the park also incorporates a dedicated skater shelter, fresh seating areas, and a full perimeter sports lighting network designed to keep the space inclusive for young people, women, and girls into the evenings.

Maldon Promenade Park Skatepark is an outdoor, public concrete facility that is 100% free to access. The park features an integrated evening lighting system to extend sessions safely past sunset, and it is located adjacent to the main car park inside Promenade Park on Park Drive, Maldon, Essex (CM9 5JQ).

TrucksandFins Tip: The location is an absolute top-tier destination for all-day road trips because it sits inside a flagship tourist park. Visiting families and riders have direct access to a massive list of premium on-site amenities, including expansive paid vehicle parking, coastal kiosks, restaurants, open green parks, the famous Splash Park, and fully serviced public washrooms.
