The Lake Wilcox Skatepark, located within the Lake Wilcox Park complex in Richmond Hill, Ontario, is a 10,000-square-foot facility that serves as a modern recreation destination for the York Region. This project was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2017 as part of a significant multi-phase redevelopment of the waterfront area. The park was developed to replace older infrastructure with a high-performance concrete environment that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding natural beauty of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
The design is a technical "flow-plaza" hybrid that masterfully utilizes the site’s topography. It features a versatile flow bowl with varying depths and integrated extensions, which provides ample speed for transition-based riding. This area transitions into a contemporary street plaza equipped with granite-capped hubba ledges, flat rails, manual pads, and a signature "kinked" ledge. The layout is engineered for "infinite lines," where the perimeter quarter pipes act as return walls, allowing riders to maintain their flow without constant pushing across the 130-foot-long footprint.
Constructed with high-strength, smooth-troweled concrete, the facility was engineered to endure the intense freeze-thaw cycles of Southern Ontario while providing a fast and quiet riding surface. The design emphasizes "place-making" by using high-quality materials and aesthetic concrete finishes that complement the nearby Lake Wilcox Promenade. The site features integrated concrete seating, professional-grade lighting for evening sessions, and clear sightlines that ensure a safe, inclusive atmosphere for skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter users. Today, Lake Wilcox Skatepark is recognized as one of the most scenic and well-designed facilities in the Greater Toronto Area, praised for its technical precision and its role as a vibrant community hub.
