For years, the Kapermolen Skatepark has been an iconic landmark for riders in Hasselt and far beyond. Following a massive redevelopment of the surrounding city park, its complete renovation marked the final, crowning piece of this major urban transformation. Nine Yards was commissioned to design and build a contemporary, sustainable, and highly versatile 2,000 m² facility that honors Kapermolen’s rich history while pushing it firmly into the future.
Driven by the City of Hasselt’s vision for an inclusive, movement-friendly public space, the new park seamlessly unites various urban sports disciplines. To ensure the space truly resonated with its users, community participation was at the heart of the project. Nine Yards worked hand-in-hand with the close-knit local skate collective, KPM Skate, translating their insights into an organic layout that perfectly balances technical progression with the natural topography of the renewed city park.
Built for maximum durability and low maintenance, the park features a striking mix of colored concrete and custom corten steel ledges. With its diverse array of transition and street elements, Skatepark Kapermolen offers a safe, welcoming environment for beginners and a world-class playground for advanced riders to session for decades to come.
