Woodridge Drive and International Boulevard, Laredo, Texas 78045, United States of America.
The City of Laredo, Texas Skatepark, located in North Central Park, officially opened to the public on February 2, 2020. This milestone marks the result of eight years of dedicated advocacy by the Skateboard Laredo group, whose efforts—combined with strong support from City leadership—led to the creation of Laredo’s first poured-in-place concrete skatepark.
In May 2017, City Council unanimously approved the design-build skatepark project to be located in North Central Park. The project was championed by Councilman Charlie San Miguel, with funding largely provided through discretionary district funds, and the park was named in honor of John Valls.
The planning process began with a community meeting to share overall improvement plans for the park and to gather input on desired skate features, amenities, and layout. A follow-up meeting with a city-delegated skater focus group helped shape the final concept design. SPA Skateparks began construction in the fall of 2019, while the City of Laredo took the lead on landscape restoration and the installation of fixtures and signage.
The John Valls Skatepark is a key part of a larger series of enhancements throughout North Central Park. It is easily accessible, with parking available directly off International Parkway, and is conveniently located just behind the covered basketball courts. For those arriving on foot or by bike, the skatepark also sits along the North Central Park Trail, making it a welcoming and central destination for the entire Laredo community.
