ABOUT SKATEPARK

Hereford Skatepark

Hereford Skatepark is a large, free-to-use outdoor concrete skatepark on Holmer Road, Hereford. Originally opened in 2006, the park has developed through several phases and has become an important wheeled-sports facility for the local community. The original skatepark was designed and built by Wheelscape, with the facility later undergoing a major expansion designed and constructed by Betongpark, which opened in 2024. The latest project increased the size of the skatepark by around 40% and introduced a completely new section with a strong focus on flow, transition and creative street features.

The new extension starts with a downhill snakerun that leads into a deep basin lined with 42 bespoke pool coping stones. The transition area features soft rolled edges and a distinctive tombstone wall inspired by the legendary Kona Skatepark, creating a unique centrepiece for the park.

The street section was also massively extended, adding a wide variety of new features including banks, slappy kerbs, rails, ledges and smaller “nibbly” transitions. A large piece of granite was incorporated into the design, adding another unusual natural element to the otherwise concrete landscape.

The combination of the original Wheelscape sections and the new Betongpark extension creates a varied layout with flowing transition lines, bowls, street features and plenty of opportunities to connect different sections of the park. It caters to a range of abilities and is used for skateboarding, BMX, scootering and other wheeled sports.

The project was developed in collaboration with Wheeled Sports 4 Hereford (WS4H), the community organisation behind the skatepark. Funding for the major redevelopment came through Stronger Hereford's Towns Fund programme, with £500,000 allocated to the skatepark project.

The project also involved a wider team of designers, contractors and local organisations, with Betongpark highlighting the work of its design team, site crew and foreman Felix in delivering the unusual concrete design.

Today, Hereford Skatepark stands as one of the UK's more distinctive concrete parks, combining an established community facility with a highly creative modern extension.
