In early 2018, SPA Skateparks was selected as the design-build contractor for the Hawn Park Skatepark in Sherman, Texas. The project scope included community engagement, complete skatepark design, sealed construction documents by a registered professional, and turnkey construction services. This effort marked a full renovation of the City’s original skatepark, located on the same site.
Prior to construction, the City of Sherman removed the existing flat concrete slab, clearing the way for SPA to begin cut-and-fill earthwork operations using imported select fill material. The entire construction process was completed in under two months, with the skatepark opening in September 2018.
The site already featured a skatepark lighting system, which was updated and reconfigured to suit the new park layout. The City of Sherman also enhanced the surrounding space with new sod and seeding, repositioned benches, and added trash receptacles. Existing amenities such as a water fountain, restroom, and parking lot provide additional convenience for park users.
The redesigned skatepark features two distinct elevations. The lower level includes a pump bump and a 3.5-foot-tall mini ramp, offering flow and variety for riders. The upper section, elevated by 2 feet, features a flat rail, stair set, hubba, down rail, turn-around quarter pipe, and a London gap, providing diverse terrain for skaters of all styles and skill levels.
