Nestled beautifully within the forested landscape of the Warande sports park in Diest, this 800 m² custom concrete skatepark represents a flawless balance between action sports architecture and environmental stewardship. Faced with the task of replacing an obsolete, worn-out facility, the local authorities required a specialized partner capable of managing both the design and construction phases while prioritizing strict nature conservation. Nine Yards was commissioned to deliver the turnkey solution.
The project’s layout was developed through an intensive participation process alongside local skaters and residents, ensuring the terrain matches the community’s authentic riding style. The resulting design stands out distinctly from other facilities in the region, using organic flow lines that mimic and blend seamlessly into the surrounding tree lines.
Navigating a sensitive, densely wooded environment presented unique logistical challenges during the realization phase. To protect the surrounding flora and root systems, construction was executed using specialized low-impact machinery and highly disciplined environmental practices. The completed park provides a durable, smooth, and future-proof sports destination that honors the raw beauty of its natural setting.
