Completed in 2024 as a centerpiece of the Den Dijk leisure complex ('Vrijetijdscomplex Den Dijk'), the new skatepark in Haacht stands as a shining example of youth-driven urban planning. The project traces its roots back to a 2021 municipal survey conducted alongside Formaat vzw, where more than 500 local youth expressed a profound need for high-quality public spaces they could call their own. Following a three-year development process, Nine Yards was commissioned to design and build a modern, safe, and future-proof facility to reward the community's patience.
Situated just 50 meters from the site of the city's outdated facility, the new skatepark was treated as a high-priority build requiring an accelerated on-site execution phase. Nine Yards worked closely with local riders during the design stage, transforming their direct feedback into a highly functional, multi-discipline concrete landscape.
Engineered for a seamless progression path, the layout boasts a versatile array of transition and street elements that welcome first-time rollers while keeping advanced riders challenged. Beyond its technical athletic capabilities, the park was intentionally integrated into the Den Dijk sports grounds to serve as a vibrant, safe social anchor where the region's youth can safely gather, connect, and thrive.
