Dean Lane Skatepark, known locally as “The Deaner,” is one of the UK's most historic skateparks, located in Dame Emily Park in Southville, Bristol. The original park opened in 1978, built into the hillside on the former Dean Lane Colliery site. Its rugged concrete transitions and steep terrain have helped give the park its distinctive character and legendary reputation.
The park has evolved through several generations of local riding and DIY modifications. Bendcrete was involved in major updates in 1999 and again in 2010, with the 2010 work focusing on the lower section, including the open bowl and large quarter pipes. In 2021, Canvas Skateparks added “The Slab”, a new smooth concrete section created on previously unused space next to the original park. The project was led by the Bristol Skatepark Collective and funded through a community campaign, adding a flatter area with ledges, manual pads, rails and other beginner-friendly features.
Today, Dean Lane remains one of Bristol's most iconic skateboarding spots, combining its 1978 original terrain, later Bendcrete work and the modern Slab section.
