The Coleman Park Skatepark in Orange City, Florida, is a standout 12,500-square-foot facility that has become a regional favorite for its high-speed flow and thoughtful integration into the surrounding parkland. This world-class project was designed by New Line Skateparks and built by SPA Skateparks, representing a successful partnership between the City of Orange City and the local action sports community. Opened in early 2021, the park was designed to replace an outdated modular facility, offering a permanent concrete environment that caters to the "all-wheel" community, including skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts.
The design of the park is defined by its hybrid layout, which masterfully blends high-performance transition elements with a modern urban street plaza. A central feature of the park is its expansive flow bowl, which includes varied depths and rhythmic hips that allow riders to maintain momentum across the entire footprint. This is seamlessly connected to a technical street section that mirrors real-world architecture through the use of precision-engineered hubba ledges, flat rails, and a variety of banks and manual pads. The construction utilizes high-quality, smooth-troweled concrete and heavy-duty steel edging, ensuring the park can withstand both heavy usage and the intense Florida climate.
Beyond the riding surfaces, Coleman Park Skatepark was designed with a heavy emphasis on community aesthetics and user comfort. The facility features integrated concrete seating and shaded viewing areas, allowing families and spectators to engage with the action in a safe and comfortable setting. The project also included a state-of-the-art lighting system for evening sessions and a layout that respects the existing mature trees and natural landscape of the broader Coleman Park site. Today, the facility is recognized as a premier destination in Volusia County, celebrated for its intuitive lines, inclusive design, and the high level of craftsmanship provided by the design-build team.
