The Chuck Bailey Skatepark, located at the City Parkway in Surrey, British Columbia, is a master-planned facility that set a new standard for youth-oriented public spaces when it opened in 2011. As a key component of the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, this 30,000-square-foot facility was designed by New Line Skateparks and built by New Line Skateparks in collaboration with CEI Architecture. The project was specifically commissioned to provide a safe, high-energy environment for the Surrey youth community, serving as a social and athletic anchor in a rapidly developing urban area.
The park is famous for its "under-cover" design, featuring a massive architectural roof structure that protects a significant portion of the terrain from the Pacific Northwest rain. This allows for year-round, all-weather sessions, a rare luxury in the region. The layout is divided into three distinct zones: a deep, high-performance bowl complex with pool coping and tiles, a technical street plaza with a diverse array of stairs, rails, and hubbas, and a "flow" area that connects the two. The facility’s aesthetic is enhanced by colored concrete, custom metalwork, and integrated lighting for night use. Beyond the skating, the park features a youth-designed mural and serves as a venue for professional competitions, workshops, and community festivals. The Chuck Bailey Skatepark remains a premier destination in the Lower Mainland, celebrated for its durability, architectural beauty, and unwavering commitment to inclusive community recreation.
