ABOUT SKATEPARK

Albany Bluebanks skatepark

Known locally as the Blue Banks, Albany's Washington Park skatepark has deep roots in the city's skate scene. The terraced former tennis courts had been an unofficial skate spot for decades before the City of Albany transformed them into an official public skatepark.

Completed in 2017, the 20,000-square-foot park makes use of the site's existing terraced layout, incorporating banks, ledges, rails and transition features into the different levels of the former courts. The result is a large, unusual skate area with plenty of lines and space to explore.

The name Blue Banks comes from the blue paint the city historically used to cover graffiti on the concrete embankments. Today, the Blue Banks remain one of Albany's central skate spots and an important part of the city's skateboarding history.
